Squamous & Basal Cell Carcinoma

"Basal Cell Carcinoma" is the most common, but least dangerous type of skin cancer. These types of carcinoma are usually found on the face and neck. Basal Cell may form as small round or flattened lumps which are either red, pale or pearly in colour and may have blood vessels (which look like tiny veins) over the surface. If untreated, they will progressively grow larger and larger requiring aggressive surgical treatment that and can leave significant scarring. Provided these tumours are treated early, cosmetic results can be extremely good.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma This type of skin cancer is less rare, but more dangerous than Basal Cell Carcinoma. This Squamous Cell cancer can develop on the lips, particularly the lower lip. Squamous Cell cancers are best described as "red scaling areas" that may bleed and become ulcerated. Squamous Cell are capable of spread to the lymph nodes if left untreated for long periods. It is a malignant growth of the squamous cells present in the top skin layer.
